ITC has won a 15-year investment license from Iraq Telecommunication and Post Company (ITPC) to market transmission capacity over the new Gulf Bridge International (GBI) fiber optic cable network connecting all the Gulf coast countries with Europe and Asia. GBI is a privately-owned fiber optic cable company backed by sovereign wealth funds from the Middle East region. ITC’s largest shareholder is Al Mal Investment Co., one of the largest investment management companies in Kuwait, which owns 50% of ITC.
The collaboration enhances Iraq’s connection to the rest of the world via PCCW Global’s extensive and robust network which is already connected to over 1,800 cities in 120 countries. PCCW Global’s customers worldwide, especially those based in the Middle East-Africa region (MEA), can now access virtually all cities and locations in Iraq through a combination of copper, fiber, microwave, and satellite solutions offered by PCCW Global and ITC.

Intelsat and PCCW Global will be able to offer networking solutions and premier video neighborhoods to customers in Asia and other regions of the world leveraging Intelsat's fleet of more than 50 satellites and its teleports in North America and Europe. With interconnects in London, New York and Los Angeles, the agreement will enable Intelsat's customers to expand into new regions via PCCW Global's extensive and robust network.
This is the first-ever interconnect between IntelsatONE and a partner network that supports both video and network services, meeting the growing demand from customers for converged delivery solutions in more locations around the globe.
Intelsat can now extend the reach of IntelsatONE to new locations in multiple Asian cities on PCCW Global's network, including Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and Seoul, and major European cities including Amsterdam, Moscow and Stockholm. Customers in these locations can take advantage of the expanding service capabilities and global network solutions offered by Intelsat's robust ground and space infrastructure.
The fiber agreement also facilitates access to the Stanley Earth Station teleport in Hong Kong, which offers connectivity to most of Intelsat's primary satellites in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean regions via PCCW Global.

HONG KONG/ LINTHICUM, MD, U.S.A., January 11, 2012 – PCCW Global, an operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications provider, and network specialist Ciena® Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN) today announced a capacity upgrade to the carrier’s subsea network with Ciena’s industry-leading WaveLogic™ coherent optical 100G networking solutions.
This upgrade will significantly increase the capacity beyond the original design of PCCW Global’s North Asia subsea routes, which span approximately 9,800 kilometers to connect Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. This will help PCCW Global meet growing demand from its wholesale and retail customers for high-bandwidth services and applications such as Internet, video and cloud computing, and better serve the many countries that it interconnects globally.
Following a rigorous selection procedure, PCCW Global will deploy Ciena platforms equipped with 100G submarine cable-grade coherent line interfaces, which are designed to significantly and cost-effectively increase submarine cable network capacity without disrupting existing customer traffic or adding cost or complexity to the network.
Using Ciena’s WaveLogic™ coherent optical 100G networking processors, PCCW Global will light a ring of dark fibers on the RNAL Cable System so that it can support significantly more than its original design capacity. The network will deliver path-resilient ring capacity and interconnectivity with other regional and transpacific submarine cable systems terminating in or transiting through the most popular Asian traffic hubs in Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
In addition to the existing network monitoring system, Ciena’s intelligent submarine network solution will allow PCCW Global to actively monitor the health and performance of its existing wet plant, including optical repeaters from third-party vendors, while continuously optimizing traffic-carrying signals in real time to ensure optimal transmission performance is achieved.
